If you recently switched from a Windows Computer to a Mac, you may have noticed that the scroll direction on the Mac is the opposite of what is on the Windows Computer. Fortunately, it's easy to change the scroll direction on a Mac, for both the trackpad and the external mouse attached to your Mac.

Scroll Directions on Mac

By default, the scroll direction on a Mac is Natural, designed to use your mouse and trackpad in the same way you would use a touch screen device.

In simple terms, this means you have to move your finger down on the trackpad / mouse with your Mac to scroll up and move your finger up on the track pad / mouse, to scroll down on your Mac screen.

As you can imagine, this can be frustrating for those coming to Mac from a Windows Computer. Therefore, let's go ahead and take a look at the steps for changing the scroll direction on a Mac from the default setting to the scroll direction available on Windows Computers.

Change Scroll Direction on Mac Trackpad

Follow the steps below to change the scroll direction on your Mac trackpad.

1. Click the Apple icon from the top left corner of your screen and then click System Preferences.

3. On the Trackpad Settings screen, click on the Scroll & Zoom tab (See image below).

4. Next uncheck the option for Scroll Direction: Natural.

Once the option is unchecked, the scroll direction on your trackpad will be like that on a Windows Computer.

Change Scroll Direction on Mac Mouse

Follow the steps below to change the scroll direction of the external mouse attached to your Mac.

1. Click the Apple icon from the top left corner of your screen and then click System Preferences.

2. On the System Preferences screen, click on Mouse.

3. On the Mouse Settings screen, uncheck the option for Scroll Direction: Natural.

That's all, from now on your mouse will scroll like a Windows computer.
