One of the most common problems with the file explorer in Windows 10 is that the folder won't open. The most common cause could be due to an error file explorer or the folder you want to open is not actually the original folder, but a replica of a virus that resembles a folder.

This problem seems trivial, but it will be very annoying, especially if the folder contains important files. Our work can also be hampered because the folder can't be clicked or opened.

If it turns out that what you clicked on was a replica of the virus, it could cause the problem to get worse, because when we clicked on the fake folder, we executed the virus and made it run on the system. Worse yet, other files can be infected and damaged.

But you don't need to worry, on this occasion bingGo will provide several solutions that you can try.

How to Fix a Folder Not Opening in Windows 10

1. Open the Task Manager

The first step is to open the Task Manager application on your computer by right-clicking on the Taskbar then selecting Task Manager.

2. Right click on Windows Explorer

Once the Task Manager application opens, click on the Processes tab. There you will see all the programs currently running on your computer. Find a program called Windows Explorer. Then right click on the program.

Click Restart to restart the Windows Explorer application. You will see a blank computer screen for a moment, this is because the explorer process has stopped. Wait for the screen to return to normal as before.

4. Check whether the folder can be opened

After restarting Windows Explorer with the steps above, try to check again, whether the folder that was problematic can be opened. By restarting explorer the problem can usually be resolved, but if you still can't try to continue to the next step.

In Windows there is a feature that we can use to check and repair corrupt or damaged system files. We can use it to solve the problem of folders that cannot be opened.

First open a Command Prompt with administrator access. The trick is to click on the Windows key => type cmd => select Run as administrator.

A Command Prompt program will open with administrator access. Then type the following command:

As I mentioned earlier, viruses can also cause damage to files and folders on the computer.

You should suspect that a virus is the cause if this problem occurs accompanied by a computer getting heavier, appearing files with strange names, and many other programs with errors.

Especially if your computer uses an outdated antivirus because it has never been updated.

Try scanning your computer using one of these best antivirus.
